NEW WORLD DEPRESSION
New World Depression is the 4th studio album and 54th project by New Orleans rap duo, $UICIDEBOY$. A new album from the Boy$ had been speculated since the release of I No Longer Fear the Razor Guarding My Heel (V). It was further speculated on, when before the release of $crim’s lonely boy, $crim had stated that the next $B album had been done for a while. A photo of the boys was released with an analog style filter, and in the corner was the date 6/14/24. $crim would go onto say that this was in fact the release date and previewed lyrics in different Instagram posts.
The album was finally officially announced on March 11th, 2024, in a post to their respective social media accounts. The tracklisting calls back to the 2015 style naming convention they used, with a few tracks being quite long naming wise, and a few tracks reflecting on nihilistic and depressive themes in a quite humorous way, like The Light At The End Of The Tunnel For $9.99 A Month. However, the things that many fans were astonished by was that with this release, after 7 years, we’d finally be getting a new installment in the Kill Yourself series of songs, with track 13 being Kill Yourself V.
On March 29th, the lead single from the album, Us Vs. Them was released. It was followed by Are You Going to See the Rose in the Vase, or the Dust on the Table? on April 19th. On May 24th, the third single, The Thin Grey Line was released. This single was generally received the best out of all 3, as fans described it as a good call back to an older, more aggressive style.
As promised, the album was released on June 14th. As soon as the album dropped, vinyls for it appeared for pre-order already. This was surprising as it took almost a year after Sing Me A Lullaby, My Sweet Temptation to have vinyls for it made. The album itself was met with massive praise from fans, with some stating that it had a balance of styles that could appeal to both old fans with more aggressive and nihilistic songs, but also new fans with more hype and pseudo hopeful tracks as well.
